The opening hole features a downhill tee shot to an inviting fairway. Long hitters must be wary of a creek about 260 yards from the tee box. Ideal tee ball is left center in the fairway in order to stay away from the large tree by the creek on the right. Approach shot is back up the hill to a large green guarded by bunkers on both the left and right.
For the big hitters, a well struck slight draw on the tee shot sets up a chance to reach this par 5 in two shots. For others, this par 5 plays as a 3 shot hole. Lurking trouble includes trees down both sides of the hole and a small pond that can come into play on errantly struck second shots. Not the easiest green to reach in regulation as the hole narrows near the green.
Short par 4 that plays much longer and tougher than one would think. The tee shot is all uphill and trouble with woods on both the left and right side of the fairway. The second shot is also slightly uphill and the green features many subtle and not so subtle breaks.
This first par 3 on the course is a somewhat lengthy hole featuring trees down the right side. The large green provides an inviting target but can also lend itself to many 3 putts. Safest play is to aim for the middle of the green.
The shortest par 5 at only 475 yards. Don’t let the yardage deceive you though. The tee shot plays uphill and usually into a prevailing west wind. You must be straight on this hole as both the second and third shots include wooded areas on both sides of the fairway. Be extra careful to avoid the woods on the left as that will result in a lost ball.
Excellent par 4 featuring out of bounds down the left side and more trees down the right. Big hitters must be careful of the large tree fronting a pond down the right side of the hole. Ideal tee shot is left center of the fairway. There is a lurking bunker by the front right of the green to catch errant approach shots.
The second par 3 on the front nine also requires a long iron tee shot. Wind can play havoc on this shot as it usually is a right to left crosswind. Smart play is to aim for the center of this large green and hope to get away with a two putt par.
Master of Deception
Easily the hardest hole on the front nine. Tee shot features trouble on both sides of the fairway. The left side of the hole has many small trees lurking while the right side has a small creek just waiting to gather in your errant tee ball. The second shot is to a narrow but deep green that plays moderately uphill. The creek also runs across the fairway which can cause some golfers headaches. The green features many undulations that make three putting very possible.
Do or Die
This dogleg left par 4 requires a well struck tee shot to avoid the out of bounds down the left side of the hole. Trouble is also present with a large tree just left of the center of the fairway and more woods down the right side. A good tee shot over the large tree or just to the right of it should leave a middle iron in to an inviting green. Smart play is to aim for the center of the green and be happy with a solid par.
The opening shot of the back nine requires an accurate tee ball to the center or left center of the fairway. Plenty of trouble on the right side in the form of a cluster of trees. You must also avoid going too far up the left side as a large grouping of trees will impede your second shot. A difficult green that is severely sloped from right to left lends itself to many three putts.
Best par 3 on the course and one of the best in the area. This hole plays a little longer than the listed yardage due to the gradual uphill terrain. The narrow green is guarded closely by bunkers on both sides. The putting surface also presents a challenge as the green features a severe back to front slope.
Valley of the Kings
The first of two back to back par fours that will really challenge your golf game. This par 4 requires a precise tee shot to the center or right center of the fairway for the best angle for your approach shot. An errant tee shot to the left leaves no chance of reaching the green in regulation. The second shot is all uphill and is somewhat of a blind approach to another tricky green. Par is a very good score here.
The ideal tee shot on this monster par 4 is a slight draw starting down the right center of the fairway. Long hitters can reach the slope in the fairway which can lead to an additional 30 yards of roll out. But, long hitters must also be aware of a dangerous pond that can gather in their wild tee shots down the right side of the hole. The approach shot is very difficult as the hole gently goes back up the hill requiring your shot to carry the green on the fly. Be careful with club selection as the second shot plays longer than the yardage left. A par here is almost like making a birdie.
The last par 3 on the course gives you a chance to catch your breath after playing four very challenging holes to start the back nine. This hole is not overly long at 167 yards but usually plays into a pretty stiff wind. The moderate size green also presents some problems with many subtle breaks.
Very fun par 5 that is pretty much a three shot hole. Classic rip it and grip tee shot as only the wildest of tee balls will lead to trouble. The real challenge is the second shot on this hole as trees line both sides of the fairway. Your approach to this green should be with a middle to short iron which can lead to a nice birdie opportunity.
Walk in the Woods
Very tough par 4 that requires a lengthy tee shot to the left center of the fairway. Errant shots struck either to the left or right will lead to wooded areas that will then require punching out of the trees. This hole plays longer than the listed 400 yards as the fairway is gradually uphill all the way to the green. Par is an excellent score here.
Around the Bend
The last of the par 4s is also one of the hardest. The drive requires a very precise shot to a fairway guarded by woods on the left and large pine trees on the right. A high draw is the play to put yourself in great position on this dogleg left hole. The approach shot is straightforward to a large green that has breaks that can cause many golfers sleepless nights.
This par 5 is one of the best finishing holes you can find. It features 530 yards of pure pleasure. The tee shot is just begging for you to unleash a long bomb. The trouble on the tee shot is in the large lake down the right side of the hole. Prudent golfers will aim for the left center of the fairway. The second shot is usually a lay up shot down the rolling fairway to your favorite yardage. A well struck third shot can lead to a decent birdie chance on this fun par 5. The green does present many challenges as there are many breaks, both seen and sometimes unseen.
